DVD Collection

Several people in my "Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner" post asked where did I keep my vast collection of DVD's.

Well, here you go:

and here's the rest.

At last count (as of about 5 minutes ago) I currently have 387 movies, 128 TV shows on DVD (not 128 separate shows, but 128 DVD boxes. For instance, I have the entire series of Gilmore Girls and Sex and the City on DVD and that's 7 boxed DVD's EACH!) and 3 DVD's that aren't movies but interesting nevertheless.

I'm wanting to build a floor to ceiling bookshelf for all my DVD's. My neighbor, L, said he's help me.

Maybe that can be a wintertime project, huh?

I'm Cool!!! I've Got Proof!!!

Yay me!!! I finally get to sit at the cool table!!!

Take that all you stinky stuck up biatches from my old (it shall forever remain nameless due to the fact that a recent middle school friend looked me up and God forbid she still speak to people from my old high school and forward this on to them....cause I was just that important...insert sarcasm there) high school!

In your face, suckas!!!

Here are the official rules:The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

I'm gonna print it out (even though I don't have access to a color printer) and laminate it and turn it into a badge and wear it with a haughty stuck up look on my face all day long.

You know what...I think I just lost the right to have this award.

Ahhh
...screw it. I'm keeping it.

I got this award from the oh-so-wonderful Jen at Daily Mish Mash. Click here to check out the awesomeness that is Jen.

I especially LOVE her Friday Eye Candy post. Can we say "HELLOOOOOOO Matthew McConaughey's BOOTAY? Seriously, go ahead, click on the word BOOTAY and you'll see what I mean. She has some delicious pictures of Ryan Gosling, Colin Firth, Brad Pitt, Josh Hollaway, etc... but the one of Mateo's BOOTAY? Oh, man, I got heart palpitations. Good thing I work in a hospital.

You know why else I love this award?

Cause I got all the power now. Yep, it's all in my itty bitty hands. Well, not so itty bitty, but you get my drift.

I get to bestow this award on blogs that make me laugh or smile or chuckle or guffaw or hyena laugh or whatever sound you make when you laugh....mine typically sounds like a donkey braying. Seriously...it's not funny...well, actually, it is.

Anyway, without further ado, here's the three that top my list:

Carrie at Candid Carrie

Lula at Lulaville

I don't know how many times I've had to suppress my laughter here at work for fear of seeming like an idiot at laughing hysterically at Medicaid payments.

Check these guys out and for you ladies that were bestowed with this award...pass on the love!

Friday Foto Finish Fiesta

Here's some pics of me and my sick baby, J.D. He pretty much lives on my bed these days. I was snuggling up with him and my mom decided to take some pics of us.

I know I've probably mentioned this before, but J.D. has no eyes (story for another time). However, even with no eyes, he's still a pretty expressive cat. You can pretty much tell what he's thinking in each picture.

In this pic, he's saying "Hey, who are you and what are you doing?"

In this one, he's saying "Awww...ma, that's gross, get away!"

And in this one, he's saying "More, more, more!"

He's a snuggler, that one.

And yes, I'm wearing overalls. Shut up.

Everyone is allowed to have skeletons in their closet and mine are short overalls.

If you wanna participate or just check out some other cool photos, head over to Candid Carrie's. She won't bite...I don't think!

Totally Random

Here's thoughts and things that have occurred to me over the past few days.

Light of my life just called me and told me that she can't find the "poem" Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack in any of her riddle or poem books and the asked me if I would look it up on the Internet.

She specifically told me to "just Google it".

Man, the times we live in!

---------------------------------

I saw an old man walking down the road the other day. He was about 6'2" or so and had white hair that I could see sticking out from under his straw hat. He was wearing overalls and boots. I only saw him from the back.

My first thought upon seeing him....oohhh, I bet he's a monster. Just like out of a Stephen King novel.

I swear if he had turned around and had piercing all black dead eyes, I would not have been surprised. Scared, yes, but not surprised.

---------------------------------

I heard the Kid Rock song "All Summer Long" (shut up, I LUV Kid Rock) and when the beginning portion of the song came on, I swear, it sounds just like Warren Zevon's "Werewolves in London". Anybody else feel that? Why, oh, why would Kid do this? I mean, c'mon, it's Warren Zevon. Click on the song titles to compare and let me know what you think.

---------------------------------

Anybody else like side zip pants? I love 'em. However, you know that little latch thing above the zipper, that little metal thingie that you hook onto another little metal thingie on the other side of the pants? Yeah, that thing. Stop putting those on there. My panties don't come up high enough to keep that from pinching my side belly fat. And I wear big panties.

---------------------------------

I love Sean Kingston. Really, really, really love him.

---------------------------------

Whenever I listen to Jonny Lang (really, if you're not listening to this kid...man, you're not human), I always think of New Orleans. This guy is HUGELY talented and should be a lot bigger than he is. Click on his name to be taken to his homepage.

Here's some links to some of his songs on You Tube:

Lie To Me

Wander This World

Good Morning, Little School Girl

The first time I ever heard him, I was just slightly older than he was...and he was 16! I've seen him twice in concerts. That says a lot because I hate concerts. He's sooooo talented. I also heart him because he always performs barefoot! That's my kinda man!

----------------------------------

I overheard a conversation between a janitor and a handy man out in the hall while I was on my way back from lunch.

They were talking about a sale at Home Depot.

I found it so funny. I don't know why other than I guess I rarely hear men talking about sales or shopping and also because it was such a manly discussion!

That's all I got for now.

Enjoy my Jonny.

Summertime TV

Summertime TV sucks.

Well, it used to. And, it still does...to a degree.

However, this summer isn't as bad.

There is a LOT of reality TV out there. I normally only watch Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother (yes, I'm totally embarrassed to admit this...go ahead, laugh and make fun...done? OK, let's continue).

However, we have found a couple of new shows (some new this year, others new to us).

My mom likes game shows and more specifically, she likes old game shows. When we had cable (story for another time), we used to LOVE the Game Show Network. I loved watching Match Game and Password and The Newlywed Game as well as the new shows.

Since then, we've had to settle for whatever comes on network TV. We're still fans of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (even though I can't watch that since it comes on during the day now).

We've re-discovered The Price is Right and Drew Carey's not doing too bad of a job. Password has come back on and we're loving that right now. We're also watching Deal or No Deal and that's about it, I guess.

As for reality TV, we've recently discovered America's Got Talent. What drew us to this show is the previews talking about the guys from New Orleans that do that break-dancing stuff. See, we've met those guys before. They perform in Jackson Square...technically, they play on the sidewalk in front of the stairs across the street from Jackson Square.

They are AMAZING to watch in real life. The perform all these acrobatic tricks that including doing flips and tumbles over like 8 people and all these jumps and flips and dancing. They really are good. I'm rooting for them to go all the way.

As far as the judges are concerned, I love Piers Morgan and Sharon Osborne. The Hoff, well, I think he's this shows answer to Paula on American Idol. Flaky....

So far, we're enjoying it. I loved the illusionist from this week as well as the girl that was doing flips on that board thingie. That was pretty cool.

We are also watching Celebrity Circus. I love Christopher Knight and am really impressed with Stacey Dash and Antonio Sabato Jr. Wee Man is hilarious. He's so cute. He's so cute, light of my life wanted to call in a vote for him! So, we did.

I've always wanted to join a circus, but I'm not nearly talented enough in any arena so I have to live vicariously through D-list celebrities and Ringling Bros. Barnum and Baily.

The last show we're watching debuted last night. It's called Baby Borrowers. Anybody else watch that?

Oh, man...I'm loving this show. The look of pure abject terror on these kids faces are HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!

I laughed my way through the whole show. I love the girl that said she wants babies because she's good with kids.

Yeah, that's a GOOD reason to have kids. You know what, if you're that good with kids, be a teacher...or a daycare worker...or something. Don't just have a kid because you THINK you're good with kids.

I also like the guy that kept referring to a 6 month old baby girl as "it".

(When I say like, you guys get that I don't really mean "like", right? OK, just checking!)

I can tell that this show is going to really irritate the hell out of me or make me laugh all summer long.

So far, they've only had to deal with infants. I can't wait til they get toddlers to take care of.

Talk about birth control!

What are you guys watching this summer?

Seriously?!?

(disclaimer: I am not about to get into a political discussion about minorities or America or politics or the state of the union or anything like that. Nor do I discuss my political leanings because, well, frankly, I don't have any)

I'm overhearing this conversation at work and it's blowing my mind.

A certain co-worker is having this conversation with others in the group. I credit her with the Stupid Award today since she started the conversation.

This is the quote I overheard:

"See, what I don't like is when you go to like the grocery store and they're (people who don't speak English as their first language) sitting there talking in their language and I wanna know what they're saying. I just know they're talking about me!"

Really? For reals? Seriously? For seriouslys? Whywhywhywhywhy?

There are so many things wrong with that sentence that I hesitate to even try to decipher it.

The conversation then takes a turn for the worse with comments like "if they're in this country, they better speak English" and "I like their food, it taste good" and what not.

Granted, I do agree that if you're in this country and you have a job where you have to talk to people on a daily basis, you should know English enough to do your job. That means understanding AND speaking the language.

But to condemn or look down on people talking to their co-workers or friends in their native language? Especially when you have nothing to do with the conversation and you're not being serviced by them at that very moment?

How incredibly self-centered and selfish (for wanting others to be just like you).

Gah.....sometimes people are just so S-T-U-P-I-D.

Mama Dawg vs. Mighty Mouse

It's on...like Donkey Kong. You're going DOWN, Mighty Mouse.

Naw, seriously, you know how I wrote about a mouse and I having a stare down? And that I won because he (or she)* "blinked" first? But how he (or she) really won because he (or she) got away and I didn't catch him(or her)?

Yeah, well...

...caught him (or her)!

I knew for a while that we had a mouse. Mostly because I saw him (or her) running around in the living room. That's usually a pretty good sign that you have a mouse.

That and the mouse droppings all over the place.

Anyway, I bought this humane mouse trap because I couldn't bear to use one of those god-awful contraptions that broke their tiny little neck or back. God help me if I killed this guy's cousin. I'd go to hell for sure.

So, I've had this humane trap in my pots and pans cabinet for over 3 weeks now with no luck. Due to this, I finally broke down and brought out the god-awful neck/back breaking contraption and got all 4 of them set up with cheese and everything...not to stereotype mice or anything.

I went to open up the cabinet to take out the humane trap to clean it out and put it away when I noticed...I CAUGHT HIM (or her)!!!!

Yay! I found a way to catch the rodent without killing it (got tired of writing him or her).

However, since it appeared that the mouse had been in there for a few days (due to all the mouse droppings), it seems that this mouse has a cohort.

Which means that I still need to set out traps.

So, I went ahead and set out the god-awful neck/back breaking contraptions.

I checked all the traps this morning and 2 out of the 4 had the cheese stolen clear out of them.

It appears that I have a mighty opponent.

Reminder to self...look up how to catch a mouse on the Incredibly Clever Internets (hear that Internets, I'm butt kissing, better pony up the good deets).

Oh, and if you're wondering what happened to that cute clever little mouse I caught?

Well, in order to keep it from coming back in the house, it went on a ride with me in my car. About half way to work, I pulled over and let it out in a field.

Where it promptly ran out in the road and got run over.**

I kid, I kid. He ran off towards the woods. I swear I heard a high pitched voice yelling "Free at last, I thank God almighty I'm free at last".

Later,

Mama Dawg

*I have to politically correct or else the Non-Partisan Mouse Advocacy Group (NPMAG) will be on my ass.

**That would have made for a better story, but I fear the Internets would find out the real story and call me out on it and I can't have that. The least I can do is offer the Internets the truth and nothing but the whole truth.

SITS Recipe

For all you SITSa's out there, you know why I'm doing this!

First of all, thanks to everyone who stopped by my blog today via SITS. At last check (about 15 minutes ago), I had 371 HITS ON MY BLOG!!!

Whoo Hoo! I feel the lovin'. Too bad none of you are Christian Bale. Then I'd literally want/need to FEEL the lovin'!

Anyway, here's a recipe for Asparagus in Curry Sauce. It's not as yucky as it sounds. The curry sauce is actually good for asparagus, brussel sprouts, broccoli. Heck, I pour it over fish, chicken, turkey, rice, etc...! I love this sauce.

Anyhoo, here's the recipe.

Asparagus in Curry Sauce

Ingredients:

Asparagus (one bunch)
1/3 cup of plain non-fat yogurt
2 tbsp of low-fat mayo
2 tsp of lemon juice (fresh is best)
1/4 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of curry powder

Bring water to a boil. Add asparagus and bring back to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes.

While the asparagus is boiling, mix all of the remaining ingredients together in a bowl. I use a whisk. It's smoother that way.

Once it's all mixed together, cover it with Saran Wrap or that lovely invention, Press N Seal and heat in the microwave for at least 30 seconds. Don't overheat or the ingredients will separate.

Once the asparagus is done (I like mine crisp), you can pour the sauce over the asparagus. Or, if you're like my household, just pour it over the portion you put on your plate.

I actually got this recipe from an American Heart Association cookbook I got for free off the Internet.

We use this sauce so much that you should see the food stains on the cookbook that's permanently turned to this page!

Bon Appetit!

My Weekend

It seems that all I do lately is post about my weekend.

Well, to be honest (I hate that phrase...makes me think that the person who says that is getting ready to lie to me), I'm just lazy.

I had Friday off. It was nice. I slept in for a little bit but then had to take J.D. to the vet once again because his back legs are failing...once again.

We're trying the Prednisone and Baytril one more time. If this doesn't work, he'll have to go on daily heart pills. Pills that he can never go off of until he dies. Costing me $45 a month.

Sigh...why does the world have to rely on money for EVERYTHING? If I knew the vet would accept free sex as payment, I'd do it. Kills two birds with one stone that way...gets the pills and it gets Mama Dawg some lovin'.

But, he's happily married...sigh.

So, on Friday, light of my life got invited to the local gas lady's house to go swimming at her private pool with her grandchildren. By local gas lady, I mean the lady that owns the natural gas place where I purchase gas for my tank for my gas heaters (not the local lady that farts a lot...that would be me). She's nice and is really good friends with my aunt (hence the invite). Light of my life slowly learned to dive while there because her grand daughter (who's 10) is on the swim team and was teaching her how to dive.

She had a blast and came home all full of herself.

I went flower and berry picking in the late afternoon. We have all these black-eyed susans growing wild EVERYWHERE, so I decided to go pick a few and make a small bouquet for the dining room table.

While picking flowers, I noticed that some of the blackberry (no, Jared, not a BlackBerry, but the actual fruit) plants were already producing mature blackberries.

So, I went a pickin'.

Here's what my efforts yielded:

Here's the flowers and the blackberries together. Such a pretty pic. The scissors really set the whole thing off.

Here's a close up of the blackberries. Don't they look yummy?

Here's the flowers. Kinda pretty, huh?

Saturday pretty much was a regular day. Made a Wal-Mart run to exchange some primer and to get a few things for dinner that night.

My grandmother is down in New Orleans with my other aunt for a while, so my other aunt (that my grandmother lives with) was all alone.

So, we invited her for dinner on Saturday night.

Light of my life was in her element. I swear, she's gonna make a good politician's wife someday. She totally stole the whole pre-during-post dinner conversation. It was filled with witty stories about learning how to jump off the diving board, learning how to dive, attending the library's reading program, telling stories that involve various bodily functions (that part was a little gross) and whatnot.

She had a blast with our first official dinner guest.

We had sun dried tomato rubbed turkey breast, brussel sprouts with curry sauce, butter beans and a tomato and avocado salad.

All in all, it was a nice evening.

Sunday was church and swimming. I also had to bathe the cats and then put on Frontline and give them a capstar pill.

Bathing cats is NOT FUN!

Due to J.D.'s bad heart and the stress that comes with getting a bath, I actually had to GET IN THE TUB with him to give him his bath. Poor thing. Once I got in the tub with him though, he stopped struggling. Maybe that's the key. However, I'm not gonna get in the tub with Mike. He'll kill me.

Oh, and I'm watching a DVD that was a mini-series on I think the Sci-Fi channel, called "Tin Man". Has anyone seen this? I'm obsessed. It's soooo good. I LOVE, WORSHIP, ADORE Neal McDonough.

Anyway, that was my weekend. How was yours?

Summertime

Light of my life is not the greatest swimmer of all but I believe she's probably the most enthusiastic. She LOVES to swim. She talks about going to the pool every day and pretty much does.

That said, she has always been wary of the deep end. She won't even go in it with me.

To be fair, she has not grown up with a pool or even a place where she could really take lessons. Mostly due to lack of money but also because we would have had to drive all over the place just to gain access to a decent pool.

After Katrina, when we were evacuated and living in an apartment, we had access to a pool 24/7. We moved into the apartment complex at the end of September and it was still warm enough to hit the pool for a couple of weeks. As soon as winter was over (and yes, we were still not living in our home in New Orleans) and it became spring, all she wanted to do was go to the pool. As soon as I picked her up from after-care, we would go back to the apartment, put on our suits and hit the pool. She turned into quite the little fish once she had constant access. She would finally get in the deep end (albeit with a ring around her waist and full on goggles...sorry Tracey) and started jumping off the sides in the shallow end.

Then, we moved back to New Orleans and there went the pool access.

When we moved up here, we discovered that a bunch of citizens started a private club and took over the care of the city pool which had been shut down. You have to be voted in and pay dues, but so far, it's been worth it. She's been pretty much every day since we got our key.

They have a diving board at the pool. She has never jumped off of a diving board before. When I was young, I used to belong to a country club that had a pool with a diving board. I used to love jumping, diving, running and cannon balling (heh, heh, I said balling) off of both the low and high board.

Well, I decided to jump off this board and she watched with great interest. I did a few tricks including diving (which I will NEVER do again...why didn't someone tell me that diving hurts when you have big ta-tas?). She watched all this but would refuse to jump off the side of the pool in the deep end let alone the diving board.

I told her that I wanted her to be able to jump off the diving board at least once by the end of the summer. She tentatively agreed and I left it at that.

Well, yesterday, after mom dropped her off at the pool (there is a life guard and people there that know her so she's well taken care of), mom got a phone call a couple of hours later and light of my life asked her to bring her camera with her when she came to pick her up.

My mom went and got her at about 5 or so and the below pictures tells quite a story:

Here she is in the deep end pushing off the side.

Here she is on the diving board...

...crouching down...

...and jumping in!!!!!!!

She loved it! She said once she did it the first time, it was like a flood gate opened and that's pretty much all she did the rest of the afternoon.

I'm so proud of her for doing this...especially for doing this on her own without anyone convincing her or talking her into it or pressuring her. She faced a fear and conquered it...with STYLE.

This is a picture (on a different day) of light of my life and her "boyfriend" S making funny faces.

They're so cute together. He pretty much claimed his stake on her on the first day of school and will tell anybody and everybody that she's his girlfriend.

Ahhhh
...summer love.

Have a good weekend. I'm off tomorrow! I may check in...or not.

Question of the Day

Why is it that when some women come out of a bathroom, they leave it smelling like roses?

Literally, smelling like roses (or some other flower).

Do they take in some sort of body spray and liberally spray it after they’re done?

Or, have I actually found a group of women whose sh*t literally does not stink?

What do you think?

Guest Blogger part 2

hi, how are you today? this is my secend time on the blog. so far it is fun. my faviret movie is chicago, and my faviret song is hey micky from bring it on.i have a perfet and funny family. bye.

This is Mama Dawg. This time, she typed it herself. As if you couldn't tell. I changed absolutely nothing.

She typed this up while listening to "All That Jazz" from the movie Chicago. She knows every word to that song as well as to "Mr. Cellophane". What 8 year old knows this stuff?

Til tomorrow...

Revamped Mama Dawg (and Kitchen)

Well, I finally found (made) the time to get a free template and revamped my blog.

To quote that manliest of men, Toby Keith..."How do you like me now?"

In the spirit of revamping, I'm going to show you my revamped kitchen. Like I explained here, the house was, hmmmmm....to put it politely...crap.

The kitchen needed the biggest makeover since the floor was literally rotting beneath our feet. The owner is one of those home building, can do anything kind of guru's, so he replaced the floor. He used a beautiful pine tongue in groove and then stained it honey oak. It turned out so pretty.

The cabinets, walls, ceiling and door jambs all had to be painted. Almost half of the kitchen walls were covered in...oh, crap...what's that word...oh, yeah, paneling (gag, gag). We Kilzed those and painted them a bright cheery yellow. The rest of the walls were covered in some sort of white plaster board stuff. Since it was white, it was fine.

I painted the cabinets (even taking off the hardware and cleaning the crap out of them. They were so grease and yuck covered...shudder) and the door jambs and the landlord painted the ceiling all bright white.

It turned out quite nice if I say so. Keep in mind, this is all DIY...we don't have the money to hire someone professional.

This is the before picture. You can't see it, but the floors are rotting underneath the linoleum. To be fair, the only thing holding up the floor is the 4 LAYERS of linoleum.

Here it is after a majority of the work was done. See how cheery it looks?

Here it is filled with all my crap. See the pretty wood floors? I normally have a dark red throw rug in front of the sink area.

I'm so strapped for space in the kitchen, the refrigerator is actually in the dining room. The cabinets you see in this pic are the ONLY cabinets I have (except for the one above the stove that you can't see). So, I had to do...

...this for a pantry! I found this gorgeous metal shelf at Wal-Mart for $20 (retail is like $70) and it was a gorgeous, gorgeous red color. I used black, white and this red (kind of a dull cherry) to accent the yellow kitchen.

I have so little space, I have no place for silverware and kitchen utensils. My mom thought of the idea that I use now.

Look at the door at the back of the kitchen. That's a plastic shoe holder! Like the kind you put in your closet. It's perfect for holding all utensils.

And I have all these (same color! miracle) red roller bins that hold our chips and popcorn and snack foods.

As small as it is, I actually love my kitchen!

My Weekend

Despite the vomit and late nights, I had a good weekend.

On Friday night, I went to our local Relay for Life walk-a-thon thingie.

Back in May, I went to a local Festival thingie where I tried to sell my photos and some sunglass cords. It sucked (in terms of sales) but I did manage to do a bit of networking.

Anyway, one of those networking opportunities came to fruition.

A lady was heading up a team for Relay for Life ...

(oh, for the love of Christ, must my iPod play Here Comes Santa Claus by the Chipmunks right now?).

...to continue...anyway, this lady asked me to volunteer to take photos at her booth to sell to raise money for this incredible organization. I agreed because it would give me some exposure and a chance to get my name out in the community.

Well, the relay was Friday night and I pretty much left work and got there right as it was starting. I took a few pics (about 12) and helped to raise about $70 which wasn't great but not too shabby.

Anyway, the big news is that one of the survivors was working this booth as well and she's a photographer/sales person for the local newspaper. She was admiring my work and offered to run some of my pics from time to time in the paper (provided that they were good) and give me credit (of course) but also would pay me for some photos and/or gigs.

How cool!!!!!!!!!!

That was one of the highlights of the weekend.

I also entered a silent auction for these horseshoe benches (one was tall and copper colored and the other was black) and didn't expect to win one of them much less than both, but I did! I'll take pics and post them sometime.

I got home that night about 12:30 or so.

I went on to bed and at some point, light of my life (who had fallen asleep on the couch), got up and joined me in my bed. Around 4 am, she woke me up informing me that she had just thrown up in my bed....great. Right after she informed me of that, she gagged and threw up 3 more times while I held back her hair. Oh, the memories of holding back one's hair while barfing....priceless.

Anyway, it's was typical kids barf. Hot dog bites, red stuff, etc........

After she was sure she was done, I sent her to rinse her mouth out and then brush her teeth while I held my breath (so as not to breathe in the barf fumes as it would AUTOMATICALLY and IMMEDIATELY cause a chain reaction with me) and stripped the bed. Luckily she only got the fitted sheet and a bit on the pillow cover. After she brushed her teeth, I had to get her to grab a flashlight and hold it on the sheet while I went outside to wash the barf off my sheet with the water hose. Can't have hot dog chunks in the washer, you know!!! Picture a mama with crazy hair outside in her t-shirt with no pants on (panties only) with her 8 year old daughter holding a big ass flashlight, washing off a big yellow sheet with barf on it at 4 a.m. all the while constantly looking off in the woods with BIG eyes at all the country night noises coming from every direction. Between the scary country night noises and the water rushing from the water hose, I nearly peed in my pants, which would have caused yet ANOTHER load of laundry (can't wash Victoria's Secret Panties in hot water with the barfed upon sheets). After rinsing off the sheet, we went inside where I tossed the sheet and pillow cover in the washer and we went and slept on the couch for the rest of the night/morning.

She was feeling much better the next morning. Thank goodness. It was a weird thing. I think it was the Sonic she had for dinner instead of an illness cause she didn't have any other symptoms.

Saturday consisted of us getting up at like 10 am (the barfing and cleaning up wiped us out) and going to Wal-Mart to drop the Relay for Life pics on a c.d. and then coming home and ordering a pizza and watching Hairspray.

Sunday, we went to church and then spent most of the afternoon at the pool. That was so much fun.

I also saved 2 more turtles yesterday.

I so wish I had a video of the one I saved on the way to church Sunday morning. I had dropped light of my life off at Sunday school around 10 and came back to the house to shower and get ready for regular service that started at 11.

My hair was in desperate need of a trim, so I have to be particular about how I fix it until I can get it trimmed (which my mom did for me yesterday afternoon...boy what a difference that makes). I always run behind, so it was pretty much me running out the door with still damp hair that had a bit of gel in it.

I get almost to the turn off to the church (about 3/4 of a mile away) when I see a medium sized turtle in the road. I swerved to avoid hitting him and then realized that I had seen his head sticking out which meant that he was still alive. I pulled off the side of the road, put my car in park and RAN in my white heels (yes, I'm a tacky white trash southerner who wears white heels to church. If you saw these shoes, you'd wear them too, they're that cool) all the way back (about 50 feet) to the turtle and picked him up and put him in the grass on the side of the road (the direction he was heading).

Ungrateful little bastard didn't even say thank you after I humiliated myself running on the highway in white heels with my boobs bouncing up to my chin and my carefully coiffed hair flying all over the place.

On the way home from swimming yesterday afternoon, there was another turtle in the road. I did the same thing, except this time, I was in a bathing suit and a towel wrapped around my waist and wearing Speedo flip flops while running down the highway.

I better earn a good spot in Heaven for all this. If not, I'm just gonna leave 'em to die...kidding. I can't do that. I figure the reason I'm so stuck on saving the turtles is because I can't save the kitties, raccoons, armadillos and dogs that get run over all the time. The turtles are so slow, that I actually have a chance of rescuing them.

For those of you keeping score (you hear me, God), that's 3 that I've saved. And nary a thank you.

How was your weekend?

Mindless Junque

I totally forgot that I promised the Internets that I'd write about a blog once a week.

Anyway, here it is for this week.

Mindless Junque

Just the name conjures up a total mish mash of topics.

And you'd be right.

But, in a good way.

I love this blog. I really, really like the woman that writes it.

It's like we're the same exact person. Down to every detail. We could be twins or soul sisters. It was fate that we meet (online).

I joke. I kid. I don't really believe any of that.

However, I do have a lot in common with her. Well, mostly surface stuff, but still. It's more than I have in common with most bloggers out there.

She is a crafter after my own heart.

I love to fix up "old" stuff that I find and she can do some creative things with the stuff she finds.

She's a mommy blogger but not in that obsessive way that some have about writing about NOTHING but their kids and what they ate and what their poop looked like and what their temperature is on any given day.

She actually writes about other stuff, too. Stuff I like to read about.

She's currently writing the story about how she and her husband met. At least, I'm assuming it's their story. It could be fiction. If so, it's a hell of a story. It's the reason these days I click on her link.

Her and Mrs. R turned me on to the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.

I love her writing style and the fact that she takes this blogging thing seriously. So seriously, in fact, she and Mrs. R created a whole new blog to highlight bloggers out there. SITS. Check it out as well.

Anyway, if you get a chance, go check her out and give her a shout out!

Totally Random Thursday Part 2

I just walked out in the hallway to get to another part of the hospital and it smelled like pickle relish and then I swear to God I saw a Hobbit in the mail room.

I wonder if they're connected?

Totally Random Thursday

Hi, I'm back.

I was gone for a day. Didja notice? Didja miss me?

Anyway, just a bunch of random stuff once again. I have ideas for blog posts but I can't seem to get off my lazy butt to write about them. One day, my friends, remind me to tell you about the nude play.

-------------------------------------------

I was just listening to Pink's "Stupid Girls" and you know that part where the "stupid girl" is in the bathroom and barfs up her grape she had for lunch and then says in that weird hoarse voice "I will be skinny"? Well, I imagine that's what the girl that crawls out of the T.V. in that jerky motion from "The Ring" would sound like. And that creeps me out. For reals.

-------------------------------------------

Don't you hate it when 31 year old mothers try to talk all hip and cool? (see the above last two words).

-------------------------------------------

I hate that Wal-Mart only seems to carry swim suit "skirts" for people either a size minus 300 and super short or size plus 300 that falls to mid-calf. Really, is it too hard to sell a size large swim suit skirt that hits the mid-thighs?

-------------------------------------------

It was Turtle Day yesterday. My mom found a turtle munching on a plum in our backyard yesterday. We kept him in an old laundry basket and meant to let him go when we got back from the pool, however, he had other ideas. He managed to tip over the basket and just left without a single good-bye. Rude turtle. Good thing I managed to paint a small red dot in nail polish on the back of his shell in case he decides to return. That way I can properly tell him off.

On the way to the pool, I saw a HUGE ASS turtle in the road. I stopped and picked him up and set him in the grass....at least 12 feet from the road. You're welcome.

------------------------------------------

A mouse and I had a stare down this morning in the pots and pans cabinet. He blinked first and ran away. Hahahahaha! Stupid mouse. I won!!!!! Nanny, nanny boo-boo.

-----------------------------------------

Wait, the mouse got away....I guess that means he really won, right?

-----------------------------------------

How come when I hear the song "It's A Hard Knock Life", I just want to run home and feed light of my life some porridge and dress her in tattered clothing and sit on the couch and watch "Annie" all day long?

-----------------------------------------

I heart Stephenie Meyer.

I got more later. Gotta go pretend to work now.

Woe Is Me

I'm sad y'all.

Have you seen the pathetic blog I have going on here?

I mean, the content is fine, but the the presentation lacks a little...oomph.

I don't think I can go on living without having a prettified blog like EVERYONE else out in the bloggie world.

I hope I don't do anything crazy and drastic....like cut off all my hair (whoops, already did that)...or chase a frog around my well (ummm...did that already, too)...or torch my oven (man, it's getting hard to find drastic measures)...

I guess instead, I'll just link over to this website designer eightcrazy designs and pray she takes pity on me before I decide to try to drown Shriner babies.

See What's In My Yard!!!

I love living here. When I lived in New Orleans, the only thing that grew was the trash in the street.

Here, I'm surrounded by yummy smelling and breathtakingly beautiful plants.

If you think honeysuckle reminds me of summer, the picture below REALLY takes me back to my childhood.

I LOVE the smell of mimosa's. Not only that, but they look like little "firework explosions" when you hold them. They are also tickley (as my daughter would say) when you brush them against your nose (when you're inhaling the oh, so, yummy smell).

In about another month or so, these will be delicious blackberries. I love being able to just pull them off and pop 'em in my mouth. My mother would prefer that I wash them first, but I've been eating 'em this way for YEARS and I'm not gonna change now. This is truly organic.

Can't tell yet if this fig tree is male or female. We've still got a couple of months before they are ready to eat (if they can even be eaten).

We have a plum tree!!!!! I pick up at least 10 a day in the yard. They are plump and juicy and delicious and smell like heaven.

This is blooming near the front of the house. The color varies from light blue to lavender to a mix of the two colors.

I also discovered that we have gardenias growing outside my kitchen window. Talk about a heavenly smell!

I also have wild roses, black eyed susans, oaks, pines, honeysuckle...it's truly a wonderful place to live.

Room Makeover Part 1 (of 2, don't worry)

When I decided to pull up roots and move to a small town, one of the worries I had was finding a place to live. There is a family house that wasn't available but would have been right across the gravel road from where my mom's building. So, since that was out, it was back to square one on finding a place.

Luckily, my uncle's secretary has a house that was available for rent. However, the last tenant was a drug user and trashed the place. He left three cats (or so) in the house and never changed their litter box. He would just come by every couple of days and toss some food in and would leave again.

Needless to say, the house was TRASHED. The only thing that saved the wood floors from being totaled was that there was like 4 layers of flooring (linoleum, carpet, etc...) and the cat urine managed to not get to the gorgeous original wood floors.

Light of my life's room is one of the newest rooms on the house. It was an addition that came along years after the house was built.

However, it had nasty linoleum and paneling. Gross....

Well, when I moved up there, I didn't have a job yet so I decided to help with the renovations to get the house ready to move into.

Mom and I worked on her room. I think it came out pretty nice, considering what it looked like before.

Here's the room before we got to it.

Here's the room after we painted it. Light of my life chose these colors. I think it's a pretty sophisticated color palette considering she was 7 when we did this.

Now here it is all decorated with all her "stuff" in it. The A/C is a new addition. A VERY MUCH NEEDED addition here in the south.

In the next post, I'll show my kitchen.

Hello how are you? I love school. Today is my mama's birthday. My mama's farts are yuck. I'm in third grade. I'm very excited that I'm going back to school in August. I'm 8 and I have a boyfriend. I have a very best friend. Her name is M.

I live in Mississippi. I moved there from Louisiana. I love it in Mississippi better. I have much more friends in Mississippi than I did in Louisiana. There's a lot of grass there.

I have a lot of fun in Mississippi. My mother is a very old person. She is 31. Okay, that's all. Good bye.

Our family farts a lot and they stink really, really badly.

(this is Mama Dawg now, I typed this word for word the way she said it to me. I think I need to have a serious talk with her about privacy issues.....she mentioned my farts to the whole Internets. Granted, they're legendary, but still.....)

Yeah, right.

I've been proven wrong. I hate that.

Actually, I don't care. Unless it's my mother. And then for some reason, I care.

Anyway, it is not redundant to say tomato ketchup after all.

Thanks to my hung like a horse blonde GOD, Jeff.

Ewwww...he said he's had it before and it's good on fries, but not on hot dogs.

Click here for the recipe if you're interested.

Sorry for the boring post. I've been cleaning since 6 am and left at 10 to get to NOLA.

I'm so excited. I get to be REUNITED (and it feels so goooood) with light of my life this weekend. I've got the day off tomorrow (we've switched to 10 hour 4 day work weeks) and I'm heading back to pick them up. Can't wait. However, it's another long ass drive back to NOLA. But, I get to celebrate my birthday there. My only requests are my mom's strawberry shortcake and the new Indy flick. Light of my life LOVES her some Indy!!! A girl after my own heart!!!

Quick Techie Question

How do people get videos on their blog? I know that there's a little icon thingie here on blogger, but I guess what I mean is, what kind of equipment do you use to take the video and then where do you dump the video to then upload it to your blog?

All I have is an analog video camera (no digital) and a digital camera that takes vids, but may not be good quality.

Any help is appreciated!

The Night I Almost Screwed...

...my finger.

Now, get your head out of the gutter all you nasty, nasty people.

This was just last night and I was hanging up pictures with my cordless drill/screwdriver.

I had to use the flathead bit and when I was screwing in a screw, the driver slipped and almost punched a hole in my finger.

Yeah, freaked me out.

I accidentally did that to my mom's hand one time.

I have never felt as low as I did when I screwed my mom's hand.

Yeah, quit snickering you nasty, nasty people. It was serious.

I was reminded of this when I read Scargosun's current post.

Come to think of it, she has a provocotive title, too.

Guess What? Guess What? Guess What?

Ooohhhhh, I'm so excited!

I can not believe what happened!!!!!

I got an e-mail in my BULK folder this morning and...wait for it....

SOMEONE HAS A CRUSH ON ME!!!!

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! (imagine lots of squealing at this point...kinda like a 13 year old girl).

I haven't even opened the e-mail yet. I'm just so excited.

I don't know what to do first. I need a haircut and a new outfit. What if he doesn't end up liking me? (I assume it's a him)

No one's ever e-mailed me before that has a CRUSH on me!

I'm gonna go open it up. BRB!!!!! Wish me luck he's a 98 year old, rich as Croesus foreigner with no kids and no living relatives that has one foot in the grave. Fingers crossed!!!

What kind of cruel joke is this?

It's an advertisement for some sort of internet dating site.

You mean to tell me that no one has a crush on me? No one likes me? I don't get to give my baby a new daddy?

All I get is a stinkin' opportunity to "possibly" meet up with some loser guys who probably smell like feet for the low, low price of $59.99 a month.

What a rip off.

Literal Dan

As I promised sometime recently (here), I am going to try my darndest to post once a week about the blogs that I have listed under my "daily reads".

By reading comments that people leave on here and comments people leave on other sites I visit, I click on their blogs and then add them to my favorites on the computer. I then read a couple of posts and if it still holds my interest, I move it to my "new reads". I then try to take a blog from that list and start it from the beginning. If it still holds my interest, I add it to my "daily reads" and then at some point, I'll post about that blog.

I've previously posted about Dooce, Jodi and Tracey.

Literal Dan is who I'm going to blog about today.

Dan is a stay at home dad. Need I say more? That alone should pique your interest.

No? Want more?

He's hilarious. His observations of his kids and their every day lives is spot on and make for good reading.

I particularly like the conversations with his kids and the things heard around his house. Some of them evoke mental images that some days, I can't get out of my head.

He has a nice style of writing that I find is very different from "mommy" bloggers out there. I don't like a lot of "mommy" bloggers. When I say "mommy" bloggers, I'm talking about the ones that talk ONLY about their kids and not about anything else at all interesting. So far, I've only ran across a couple of those and I've deleted them off of my "new reads" list.

I digress.

You really need to go check him out. Especially his "Wanted: Baby for "Questioning"" post. That one is the one that hooked me and made me come back for more.

He may even make you one of his minions...believe me, this is a great honor.

In fact, the only reason I'm typing this post about him is that I'm trying to work my way up the minion ladder. I'll use anything in my bag of tricks to work my way up. Except my feminine wiles...and not because he's married to a seemingly wonderful and tolerant woman who could probably kick my ass but because I lost my feminine wiles somewhere back in 2000 or 2001.

Still lookin' for 'em.

May have to put out a "Wanted" alert for 'em.

Anyway, go check him out.

See ya next week for another version.

Today's Question

Why is it when I wear ballet flats, I immediately start walking like a ballet dancer? You know, like with a stick up my ass? (no offense to ballet dancers, I was one myself for 7 years)

Does this mean that when I wear my hooker heels, I should walk like a hooker?

What do you think?

Get Low and Smack That

Ummm….is it wrong of me to listen to music like Akon (featuring Eminem)’s song, “Smack That” or Lil Jon’s “Get Low” while working at a Baptist Hospital where they do a daily prayer over the intercom?

Back in high school and for a few years after that, I listened to a lot of hip hop thanks to my friend, Mimi. I met her during my senior year and she got me into clubbing. I loved going clubbing with Mimi. Mostly because just being with her gave me some street cred since she was a terrific dancer. Oh, yeah, and she was Puerto Rican…in central Florida…where there are a lot of Puerto Ricans and Cubans.

Yeah, I was phat.

LOL!!!!! That reminds me of a story. It was about 1995 or so and Mimi and I were tooling around in her little blue car listening to music. I’m sure we were on the way to the mall or something like that. Maybe even Arby’s (I got her hooked to Arby’s and she got me hooked to Goya products). Anyway, we were listening the Quad City D.J.’s “Ride That Train” and we were really getting into singing it and dancing in the car and all. When it was over, I had the biggest shit eating grin on my face and I said, “Man, that was phat”.

I never heard Mimi laugh so hard.

Apparently, this little white bread southern girl who still spoke like a hillbilly couldn’t pull off “phat”.

Who knew?

I know that I’m about to be 31 (this Saturday to be exact) but I love Eminem. He is so incredibly talented. The way he puts words together…pure genius.

I don’t get offended by lyrics against women or any of that other feminist crap. I can’t. Really, they’re just words. Even if the artist means them, I really don’t care. I don’t have the energy to spare to care about crap like that. There’s so many other important things to care about.

Like, what the hell am I gonna eat for dinner and how soon til I get off work so I can pour myself a glass of wine or when is light of my life coming home.

You know, important things.

Anyway, is it wrong of an almost thirty one year old white bread southern women who also listens to Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel and the High School Musical soundtrack to also like Eminem, Akon and Lil Jon?

"Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner"

The Daily Mish Mash is hosting a Movie Madness Carnival. Go check it out and participate if you'd like. There's a great give away as well.

Anyway, to participate in this Carnival, you need to write a post relating to anything regarding movies.

Ummm.....this is a Carnival right up my alley.

For those of you that know me, I have this little obsession of movies. Well, more like big obsession.

I personally own over 300 DVD's. That doesn't include my TV shows on DVD, my daughter's DVD's or all the VHS tapes I used to own (over 300 of those at one point, as well).

I "heart" movies. I love the feeling of disappearing into another World for approximately 2 hours. A World that I don't live in. A World that at times I'd like to live in (Princess Bride anyone?) and a World that I wouldn't like to live in (Donnie Darko anyone?). Especially Donnie Darko since it has Jake Gyllenhaal. I can't stand that kid.

I get this same feeling from books, but with movies, you actually get to see the stories played out in front of your eyes instead of having to use your imagination.

I love that when my daughter goes to bed at night, I can pop in "Sweeney Todd" or "Not Another Teen Movie" or "Schlinder's List"...whatever suits my mood and not have to worry about putting on a "family friendly" movie...you know, like "Grease" or "Footloose" or "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". My daughter's a freak for those movies. (the family friendly in quotations is meant to be sarcastic since these are definitely not considered "family friendly").

For the life of me, I can not remember the first movie I ever saw. I remember the first "adult" movie I ever saw. By "adult", I don't mean porn, I mean one that isn't meant for kids.

It was "Legal Eagles" and I saw it in the movie theater with my mom and her best friend. I think this wasn't too long after my mom and dad's separation which would probably explain why I was at the movies with my mom and her best friend.

I also remember the first movie I ever saw on VHS. It was "Dirty Dancing". That was the movie that HOOKED me forever on movies.

To this day, I will forever hold a special place in my heart for Patrick Swayze for the way he told those horrible, horrible parents of her "Nobody puts Baby in a corner".

What's Up Internets?

This is totally random. I got nuttin' honey.

------------------------------------

New poll to the right.

------------------------------------

I got a hint this morning of what June's dead animal of the month may be. Quite possibly foxes. Not sure yet. I'll let you know towards the end of the month.

------------------------------------

I think Bobby Darin did "Mack the Knife" better than Frank Sinatra. Yes, I know, it's a toss up because Frank is such a legend, but so is Bobby in his own right.

------------------------------------

Is it possible to sleep too much? Cause I may have this weekend. Or maybe not since I'm feeling so refreshed.

------------------------------------

How did I ever live without an iPod?

------------------------------------

I think I have a mouse. And not as a pet. But if I catch him alive (as opposed to dead in a mousetrap), I just might make him/her a pet.

------------------------------------

J.D. is doing much better. I secretly think he's milking his illness for all he can, though. Little booger is perfectly capable of getting up and down off the bed, but his mama won't let him. And I think he enjoys that.

-----------------------------------

Is it too terribly 90's of me that I'm excited to see NKOTB back? (for those of you too young or who were into Alice in Chains or alternative music in the 90's I'm referring to New Kids on the Block). I would totally buy tickets to see them in concert if they were coming to a venue near me since I never got to see them in concert back in the 90's. Man, I loved me some Joey.

-----------------------------------

I totally had a blog post written up in my head last night but between, oh, about midnight and this morning, I've totally forgotten it. Including the subject. Just disappeared. Probably the same place where my socks go when they hit the dryer.

-----------------------------------

I made about $10 at the festival this weekend. It cost me $25 for the booth. However, I got a lead on a paying gig to photograph a birthday party and a volunteer gig for Relay for Life to take their pics. The good thing about the Relay for Life thing is that there will literally be hundreds of people there and I'm allowed to pass out my business card and try to sell myself as a photographer. We'll see how that goes. Plus, the guy that might hire me for a birthday party is kind of a big wig in the town, so if he's pleased, he can spread my name around.

-----------------------------------

I just discovered Sheryl Crow's "Ordinary Morning". Beautiful, just beautiful.

-----------------------------------

I can't decide if my favorite soundtrack is "Chicago", "Hoot", "Grosse Pointe Blank" or "Grease 1 & 2".

-----------------------------------

I love the sound of my daughter's sweet (albeit off-tune) voice singing "All That Jazz" from "Chicago".

-----------------------------------

That's it for now.
