Decision 2008

Guys, I just can't make up my mind.

I've been racking my brain for so long now on which way to go.

It's been driving me crazy with the choices that have been presented to me.

Do I go with something I've been through before and has proven to serve me well?

Or...do I go with change?

I like change.

But there's something just so comforting about the old.

It's secure. It's the evil I know.

But change....I've always liked change. I like mixing it up. I like seeing something new.

So, I've put it to you, oh mighty bloggy land.

Whatever the majority of you decide for me, I'll go that way.

Pinky swear.

I will let YOU help me decide.

Canadians can play along. I don't discriminate.

Republican or Democrat, I don't care.

Black or white, doesn't matter to me.

Just give me your opinion on this very important life changing decision I must make.

Which TV show on DVD should I watch next...Rescue Me or Mad Men?

See, I've seen Rescue Me before. I watched the whole first 2 seasons, but then due to life getting in the way, I let it fall of my radar. I have the first 3 seasons on DVD and there's just something about Denis Leary that makes me all squishy inside. His blunt talk, his obvious WTF attitude, his voice.

But, I have Mad Men on DVD. And I've been hearing so many wonderful things about this show. I've never seen it before and would like to give it a try. I love that the setting is in the 60's and that it doesn't gloss over the ugly.

So, what is a girl to do?

Let me know in the comments.

And...thanks.

Later,

P.S. You totally thought I was going somewhere else with this, didn't you? You should know better by now. Silly gooses (or geeses? geesi?).

Summertime TV

Summertime TV sucks.

Well, it used to. And, it still does...to a degree.

However, this summer isn't as bad.

There is a LOT of reality TV out there. I normally only watch Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother (yes, I'm totally embarrassed to admit this...go ahead, laugh and make fun...done? OK, let's continue).

However, we have found a couple of new shows (some new this year, others new to us).

My mom likes game shows and more specifically, she likes old game shows. When we had cable (story for another time), we used to LOVE the Game Show Network. I loved watching Match Game and Password and The Newlywed Game as well as the new shows.

Since then, we've had to settle for whatever comes on network TV. We're still fans of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (even though I can't watch that since it comes on during the day now).

We've re-discovered The Price is Right and Drew Carey's not doing too bad of a job. Password has come back on and we're loving that right now. We're also watching Deal or No Deal and that's about it, I guess.

As for reality TV, we've recently discovered America's Got Talent. What drew us to this show is the previews talking about the guys from New Orleans that do that break-dancing stuff. See, we've met those guys before. They perform in Jackson Square...technically, they play on the sidewalk in front of the stairs across the street from Jackson Square.

They are AMAZING to watch in real life. The perform all these acrobatic tricks that including doing flips and tumbles over like 8 people and all these jumps and flips and dancing. They really are good. I'm rooting for them to go all the way.

As far as the judges are concerned, I love Piers Morgan and Sharon Osborne. The Hoff, well, I think he's this shows answer to Paula on American Idol. Flaky....

So far, we're enjoying it. I loved the illusionist from this week as well as the girl that was doing flips on that board thingie. That was pretty cool.

We are also watching Celebrity Circus. I love Christopher Knight and am really impressed with Stacey Dash and Antonio Sabato Jr. Wee Man is hilarious. He's so cute. He's so cute, light of my life wanted to call in a vote for him! So, we did.

I've always wanted to join a circus, but I'm not nearly talented enough in any arena so I have to live vicariously through D-list celebrities and Ringling Bros. Barnum and Baily.

The last show we're watching debuted last night. It's called Baby Borrowers. Anybody else watch that?

Oh, man...I'm loving this show. The look of pure abject terror on these kids faces are HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!

I laughed my way through the whole show. I love the girl that said she wants babies because she's good with kids.

Yeah, that's a GOOD reason to have kids. You know what, if you're that good with kids, be a teacher...or a daycare worker...or something. Don't just have a kid because you THINK you're good with kids.

I also like the guy that kept referring to a 6 month old baby girl as "it".

(When I say like, you guys get that I don't really mean "like", right? OK, just checking!)

I can tell that this show is going to really irritate the hell out of me or make me laugh all summer long.

So far, they've only had to deal with infants. I can't wait til they get toddlers to take care of.

Talk about birth control!

What are you guys watching this summer?

I Heart Rigs

I love Tim Riggins. I mean, LOVE….scratch that, maybe I should say LUST.

That boy is gorgeous.

In case you have no clue who I’m talking about, just go to http://www.nbc.com/ and check him out under Friday Night Lights.

He’s a character on this phenomenal show.

If you have not seen it, RUN, don’t walk to your nearest Wal-Mart store. They have the first season on DVD for $19.99 plus additional scenes on a separate DVD for $5.

My friend Jodi has been watching this show and has talked about it on her own blog. (Thanks Jodi, for mentioning this repeatedly on your blogs as it reminded me to not only get the DVD’s but to watch them….you also inspired me to try out “Dexter” now that it’s on the local channels on Sunday nights…..I love this show).

I have the movie on DVD. I bought it before the show was on the air. I got it for a few reasons:

1. It’s about football.
2. It starred Billy Bob Thornton
3. It was directed by Peter Berg

I love all three of those things. I should have put Peter Berg first since he’s the real reason I bought the movie. I adore Peter Berg.

Anyway, when I heard they were making a TV show out of this movie (and book), I knew I had to watch it.

When I found out that Kyle Chandler was starring as Coach Taylor…..it was a must see. I’ve loved Kyle Chandler since Homefront. Remember that show? It was set in WWII days? He was so beautiful then and is even more so now.

Then, I found out that it was coming on opposite of a show that I watched. I forget what it was now. They’ve moved this show around a couple of times. I chose to watch the established show instead of catching this one. Then they moved it again and I still couldn’t watch it.

By now, I had missed the whole first season. I never even started watching the second season due to other things happening (moving, trying to get settled, football games, etc…).

I finally bought the DVD’s at Wal-Mart and just started watching it last week.

The first episode was….I don’t have the words. This show is so real. The reactions that the actors have, the camera work, the average-ness of the people. I can’t even begin to tell you about the first episode. It would take 10 pages just to describe it.

The actors are well chosen (except for Minka Kelly as Lyla….she sucks). The actors are able to portray so much with just a look or just a few actions. The complexities of the characters are what make this so rich. I know people like this. For anybody living in a small football town, you can “see” a real person you know in each of these characters.

Coach Taylor has this enormous weight on his shoulders. It’s not just about winning games for the sake of winning games. The town EXPECTS him to win games and to take the “boys” to State. The Mayor herself gives the football players and the coaches’ advice and veiled threats of what would happen if they don’t win. This coach is hit from every angle by people who have advice and ideas and threats. How he keeps from hitting everyone that comes up to him, I don’t know.

Matt Sarencen is so understated but spot on as the nervous and socially awkward new QB1. You can actually see him grow in each episode.

Tim Riggins can take control of a whole scene with just one look.

Just as an example of the realism in this show. There’s one scene in an episode where he’s in the kitchen talking with his brother and they’re getting pissed at each other. He’s standing up eating something and starts talking with his mouth full. In most TV shows, they want you to be able to speak your words so the viewing audience can catch every one. Here, they show what people all over the world do every day. Talking with their mouth full. I know that’s corny and that’s it’s really small, but it’s just one example of the details they put into this show.

Peter Berg nailed this show.

I now watch 3-4 episodes a NIGHT. After light of my life goes to sleep. Which is at 9 pm. This means I’m up til about 1 am every night watching this show.

Needless to say, I’m exhausted.

But it’s so worth it.

Go to http://www.tvguide.com/ to find out what you can do to save this show.

It’s endangered because of some idiots in upper management of NBC.

Don’t get rid of my Coach Taylor or Tim Riggins. I don’t know what I’ll do.

If there is going to be a third season, you better believe it will be a priority show for me.

Check it out. You won’t be sorry, I promise.

We are yogurt!

Or as Hiro and Ando pronounce it "yo-gurt-oh"

I love that line from Heroes.

I love the show Heroes.

I don’t care what others say, this show rocks! I loved the shortened second season (I don’t love that it was shortened, I just loved the stories). Granted, Hiro’s story was a little dragged out, but it did eventually prove to be telling.

I even sort of liked Maya and Alejandro’s story. It wasn’t my favorite and it kinda wandered in circles, but nevertheless, I didn’t hate it.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that David Anders joined the show (as Adam Monroe). I loved him in Alias as Sark and I love him now. That accent makes me all tingly inside. I’d love him even if he wasn’t hot.

Don’t even get me started on Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Pasdar. I didn’t like him in the beginning (Adrian, who plays Nathan Petrelli). But he grew on me.

I’ve loved Milo since I first saw him in Opposite Sex. I was so stoked to see him in Gilmore Girls and then to find out he was going to be in Heroes!!! In fact, he was the main reason I wanted to watch the show.

This is a completely silly and pointless post.

However, I do have to talk about something serious.

Kelly, light of my life’s female beta fish, passed away yesterday. She discovered the little corpse while I was driving home from work. Actually, the landlord’s daughter was over playing and noticed it for her. Light of my life is heartbroken. So heartbroken in fact, it took her all of 2 hours to get over the death. That’s a long time to a seven year old. She’s already inquired as to when we can get a new one.

We had this one for almost two years. That’s a long time for a fish. She has two others, Tom (another beta fish) and Golden (a large gold fish w/black lips….kinda freaky looking if you ask me, not that you did).

I put the hamster in a sock yesterday. No reason, just thought it’d be funny and it was. I got a pic of it. I’ll have to post it sometime. It was one of my daughter’s ankle socks so he was barely peeking out of it. He provides us so many laughs.

On Wednesday night, we went over to see B & L and the kids. We had some presents for them from our trip over New Year’s. Our landlord wanted to come down to shoot fireworks in our yard since it’s open space as opposed to the trees surrounding their property. We ended up making a small get together out of it. Had some wine and sparkling juice and cookies. It was COLD but lots of fun. Six adults, four kids and two dogs. The landlord’s dog, Sam, was barking and trying to “get” the fireworks. It was a funny sight. Light of my life is terrified of fireworks (at least ones that are so close up) so she sat on the front porch for the most part.

I love living out in the country!

Have a good weekend and I’ll “see” y’all on Monday!

Mama Dawg
