Electric Youth
Ahhhhh.......youth.
What a wonderful thing.
I grew up mostly in the 90's. I was 13 when 1990 rolled around and I graduated from high school in 1995.
I was soooooo boy crazy. And, once upon a time, they were crazy for me, too.
I dated....a lot. I mean, crazy a lot. I never kept a boy around for more than 2 weeks.
I loved growing up in the 90's. I lived in Orlando at that time. Actually, outside of Orlando, but close enough.
I lived in the suburbs.
You know, every third house had the same floor plan. Oh, sure, on the outside it was pale blue or pale peach or pale green, but the inside....the same.
Despite the cookie cutter aspect of the neighborhood, I loved it.
I was able to walk to school. Both middle school and high school.
I had friends.
I loved the trends of the 90's.
I loved the sights of the 90's.
I loved the music of the 90's.
I was a 90's girl all the way.
I can remember loving Debbie Gibson. Remember her?
She had some good hits, y'all.
She also put out a perfume.
I LOVED that perfume.
I only ever had one bottle of it.
But I used it all up.
You know how sometimes, a scent can take you back...way back?
Even though Electric Youth is no longer manufactured (I think...God, I hope), there are some perfumes or lotions out there that resemble it enough that if it's wafting through the air at some mall or a fair or at a concert, it takes me back to middle school.
The tears, the heartbreak, the laughter, the sleepovers, the secrets, the passing notes in the hallway.
It takes me back to a gentler time. Of course, it's only gentler cause I'm looking BACK on it. I'm sure if you asked me back then if life was rough, I would have responded with a "Heck yeah!"
There are some days I miss those easier times.
I'll leave you with a very badly taken photo. It's actually a photo of a photo.
See the "lovely" trends of the 90's?
Guess which one's me.
Later,
15 really cool people who give a rat's patootie:
I'm goin' with the one on the right.
I'm gonna say middle. I also was a Debbie Gibson follower.
The one on the left! Very cute picture! Looka mama dawg....! lol
I'm guessing your the one on the left??
Did I win? Did I Win? Did I?

Man, when I was in HS, all the guys wore Drakkar and that shit still makes me gag. One guy would SHOWER in Polo. I can still smell it.
95? baby girl.
Oh, and I guess the right.
The one on the right looks like my sister. And if that's right I guess that answers the Gemini question.
Hehehe....memories....I graduated in '96. And BTW, don't be jealous but I am SO going to see NKOTB at the end of the month :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday and sharing some SITS love!
Me too..the 90's. Not so crazy about the clothes, but the memories are badass.
You are undoubtedly the one in the middle. And not bad lookin', if I do say so myself.
Though I must break the news to you-- you're the same age as my oldest brother, which unfortunately makes you Old.
But cheer up, I'll get there, too, someday.
We're the same age. I graduated from high school in 1995 too.
Adorable picture! I think you're the one of the left. Actually, I really have no idea, that's just a random guess. Sorry!! Cute dresses though!
Scent is so strong, perhaps the strongest sense connected to memory. I had my first serious girlfriend in 1984, my last year of high school, and she wore 'Charlie'. If I ever smell it, and those events are increasingly rare as people of my age die off at an every incresing rate, I am instantly 17 again again for a fraction of a second.
After reading your post, I hope my Whiney Girl has memories like yours of her teen years.
Yummy flowered dresses. I miss those days...
Oh, and I'm thinking you're the one on the left?
Those dresses are so 90210. I love them.
And, just for the record...I graduated with the West Bev Highers AND the Bayside gang. Yep...1993, baby! Wooooooooooo!
