Gift Advice

Hello...is this thing on? taptaptaptaptap...Hello? (sounds of screeching feedback).

Eh-hmmmm....I need some advice.

Light of my life has been invited to a birthday party this Friday night for a 9 year old boy.

What do you get a 9 year old boy?

No, Tentcamper...not a 9 year old girl.

Seriously, what do I get a 9 year old boy? What are they in to these days?

Any and all advice welcome!

Thanks.

Mama-D, do you know anything about this kid? Does he like sports, video games, reading?

If not, I have never seen any boy be unhappy with a remote control car. You can get them for under $20 at Walmart or Radio Shack. The box is sqaure and easy to wrap.

Pokemon. Pokemon. Pokemon.

And some more Pokemon.

I have yet to meet a 9 year old boy who does not like Pokemon. And I know many 9 year old boys.

If that doesn't sound good, give him a gift card to Target. Bailey loves Target.

AFRo

I am an expert on this so listen closely... come a little closer... yes, that's good.

WEBKINZ.

It's the gift that keeps on giving and it's cheap too. Look it up online, but I'm pretty sure that you can find them on the Square there in the toy shop or the bookstore.

Any of the dogs are coveted by the little boys...just take your pick.

Debbie

Webkinz are a good idea. But you know what happens, the kid ends up getting 10 of them like my nine year old neighbor boy did just recently. So you know what else you go for: LEGOS...Star Wars legos in particular...they are usually a guarantee winner with most boys that age.

Insane Mama

I would vote against webkinz or pokemon, I don't let my kids play video games or play on the computer, there is too much of that going on in the world. Get him something real boyish, like slingshots and airguns, or if his parents won't like that then gift certificates to a local ice cream place, and a classic old but good board game, askateboard? Scooter? I'm trying mama dawg, really, I am.

Insane Mama

I forgot, there is this really cool thing that you build and then race marbles down it, from the discovery store, Remote control cars ARE good. Legos, Yes. Pokemon, NO! If I see one more pokemon thing in this world I will vomit for real!

the biggest water gun you can find.

my boys are tiring of pokemon.

In line with what Jodi just said...

This is a double barrel water launcher-- not just a gun, a launcher. We're no joke about our water play over here!

Rhea

Any kind of building or shooting thing possible. Magnetix, Legos, Nerf guns or balls, etc. That sort of thing. Trust me, I have an 11 year old and a six year old. They love that stuff.

Lori

Star Wars Legos rock! For 9-year-old boys, I mean, not for me. Of course. I think you can't go wrong with the classic stuff, water gun, baseball, etc.

I usually ask when I RSVP what the birthday kid would like.

Chris M.

I'm gonna go with the Nerf gun thing. Only because I loathe Pokemon and don't know what Webkinz are or should be. A ginormous water gun would work as well.

I don't know boys. Seriously. I. Can't. Relate.

Call his mom and ask him what he's into? This is what I do. We (my 2 boys) get invited to every little girls' party w/in 30 miles and I'm always stumped - so I just call and ask what they're into.

scargosun

Nurf gun or go to Amazon and look up by age. They usually have pretty good ideas.

Staci

dude i always have this problem....and i have boys.....there are some really cool toys at toy zone, but target also has some things that are cool if you dont have a toy zone, i would get one of those science kits that they can make all kids of cool things or do cool experiments, HOURS of fun......

Mama Dawg

I'm not about to leave individual comments on these because it would all say the same thing! These are all great ideas.

My daughter already asked the little boy himself what he wanted and he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know. I figure if she couldn't get it straight from the horses mouth, I'd try you guys.

He seems to be a shy boy and not that outspoken so I think I might go with some sort of Lego thing.

I live 2.5 hours away from a Target, so, they're out and I don't have any speciality toy stores nearby. That pretty much leaves anything I can buy at Wal-Mart! Or, like Afro said, on the square here near my place of business.

Again, thanks so much guys for all the feedback.

My daughter was so excited when I told her I was going to blog about this. She thinks it's so cool to solicit advice on my blog.

What a weirdo! LOL!

Dirty White boy

I have more than enough now, and funny thing is, I always revert back to peanut butter.

My kids however, hate it.

Dirty White boy

also, 9 year old boys like dvds containing most things on cartoon network, they like water guns, water balloon makers, legos, NO POKEMON BECAUSE POKEMON WENT OUT LIKE 10 YEARS AGO...and they like GIFT CARDS.

Dirty White boy

Give him a walmart gift card..then he can get what he wants.

OOhhhh..or get him that nerf tommy gun. I got Stormy one, and well, me and Shan had to go back and get us one as well.
F-u-rrikin awesome.

Mama Dawg

Nerf tommy gun? WTF? Really?

I may have to check that out for myself.

I had already thought about a Wal-Mart gift card.

Thanks for the ideas. Glad you have enough peanut butter now!

Lula!

Boys? What are these boys you speak of?

Seriously...a Target gift card. Easy-peasy and you're done.

Rhea

Dirty White Boy is wrong, btw. Pokemon is still IN big time.

Well, video games are pretty expensive so I wouldn't go that route unless it is the norm to spend that much at a kids birthday party. What about a gift card to do something fun, like bowling or movies. My son is 8 and would love that sort of thing.
